Finestrat

The charming town of Finestrat

The historic part of Finestrat is situated close to Benidorm, approximately three kilometers inland at an elevation of 238 meters above sea level. Separated by the Sierra Cortina mountain range, the old bell tower in casco histórico can be seen from the western edge of Benidorm, near the shopping centers “La Marina” and “Carrefour.” The town’s distance from the coast becomes evident when exploring the ancient Moorish fortress or watchtower, which were constructed along the Mediterranean coastline to alert residents of pirate raids and provide them with time to defend against the Berber brigands.

Nestled in the hills, the charming town of Finestrat has a population of just over six thousand inhabitants. Its charming streets, comprised of cobblestones, wind their way uphill and are lined with houses that are closely packed together. These houses, typically no more than three floors high, feature whitewashed Andalusian-style facades. Against this backdrop, the vibrant orange roof tiles create a striking contrast with the cobalt dome of the 18th-century San Bartolomé parish church and the weathered stones of the tower located in Plaza de la Torreta. Spanish towns boast centuries-old architecture that serves as optimal protection against the scorching sunlight for their residents, particularly in the case of “casas colgantes” (hanging houses).

Located approximately forty kilometers away from Alicante, this region offers fascinating attractions such as the ancient stone spring Fuente del Molino, a 13th-century fortress, and the snow-white “Skete of the most holy Christ del Remedio.” This monument to the Worker features a stone hand from which a small fountain flows, symbolizing an unassuming yet timeless allegory. Nestled within a complex landscape of foothills, Finestrat offers enchanting tiny parks that are scattered throughout the area. On one side of the historical center, the majestic Puig Campana mountain stands tall, resembling a giant bell. On the other side, towards Benidorm and the sea, villas adorned with lush vegetation overlook the surroundings.

This real estate in Finestrat holds a special allure, attracting those seeking a peaceful escape from the bustling and lively atmosphere of Benidorm, which remains vibrant throughout the year.

However, in the new coastal areas that fall under the administrative jurisdiction of Finestrat, the traditional patriarchal character is nowhere to be found. In close proximity to “La Cala Finestrat” beach stands the imposing “Gran Hotel Bali,” which holds the distinction of being the tallest hotel in Europe and the tallest building in all of Spain. This stretch of coastline is aptly referred to as Beniyork. It is abundantly clear that the area is teeming with comfortable residential complexes, modern hotels, and towering skyscrapers, forming a distinct cape that separates it from Benidorm’s Poniente beach.

Therefore, if one chooses to purchase a property in Finestrat’s La Cala, Terra Marina, or Sierra Cortina areas, they will effectively find themselves within the rapidly developing tourist infrastructure of Benidorm. While the coastal area of Finestrat may not offer the same level of sunbathing and swimming opportunities as Benidorm, it presents a serene and verdant environment. It features a variety of children’s playgrounds, sports facilities, and swimming pools within gated hotel complexes and uniquely designed private mansions. This combination of tranquility and greenery, situated just moments away from the bustling shopping centers and entertainment venues of Benidorm, is highly valued by the residents of these areas.

The apartments in this area have been recently constructed, incorporating modern design and meeting contemporary standards. As a result, they boast ample green spaces, swimming pools, underground parking, and other resort-like amenities that rival the best vacation destinations worldwide.

What to see?

The expansive amusement and recreation park “Terra Mitica,” designed in the thematic style of ancient Mediterranean civilizations, offers an array of thrilling slides, water attractions, and mechanical rides that will captivate children and adults alike. For those with an interest in golf, Finestrat boasts surrounding golf courses that provide enjoyable experiences for enthusiasts.

As you traverse the highway from the historic center of Finestrat to Benidorm, the red coloration signifies a designated tourist route, promising numerous scenic views and significant historical sites. These include breathtaking mountain landscapes, the formidable Moorish fortress of Guadalest, the refreshing mountain springs of Benifato, the mesmerizing waterfalls along the Algar River, the cactus park of Cayos d’en Sarria, and many other captivating attractions to explore.
